"We typically donate to American Forests to have enough trees planted to absorb all CO2 we generate on the road, and we also donate to Native Energy to generate enough electricity to refuel the grid for whatever amount of energy we consumed on the road. Our profit margin on merchandise is much slimmer than most bands, because all products are organic or 100% post-consumer recycled, so the grant would help us cover costs there. For the remainder, we would use the funding to help build the spring hydro?generator that will be powering our rural recording studio. Any extra funding wold be donated to our 501c3 environmental nonprofit, Earthology Institute. "
The mission of this project parallels a lot of our past work, which has had a focus on water quality. We have done educational campaigns on the powerful impact of avoiding plastic bottled water, and in our own artist rider, we tell the clubs we require glasses and a pitcher, rather than bottles of water. We have sold our BPA-free water bottles and koozies to stress this concept. This campaign would be a good opportunity to provide education to fans through tabling materials, email campaigns and press releases, both through Cloud Cult and through our nonprofit, Earthology Institute.
