"One of our bandmembers, Micah drives a 1990 Ford E-350 Bio-Diesel van (one of our touring vehicles) on the roof of which he has installed a solar panel, which provides 1500w of solar power. We would like to use the Green Grant to find and fund our bio-diesel stops on the road as well as possibly getting another solar generator and veggie-oil conversion for our other touring van so that we could power our shows using mostly, if not completely, clean solar energy. We would also like to make our CDs using recycled materials and soy-based inks, and to partner with a hemp clothing line (such as Livity Outernational) to make Insects vs Robots t-shirts using hemp and/or organic cotton. We would also book gigs at environmentally conscious festivals and music/art events promoting and practicing sustainability. "
"We have done some research and found that about 80% of the carbon footprint from the music industry is due to the many fans who drive for miles to see the bands they love. We would not only encourage our fans through our website and general promotion to carpool or ride bicycles to our shows, but if we had the funding, we would love to rent an eco-shuttle in each town that would pick up concertgoers from designated areas and bring them to the show. This would not only greatly reduce environmental impact, but most likely the risk of drunk driving as well. "
