If I win, I will use the Brita / Reverb Green Grant to fund a couple of different events that would be free to the public during my summer tour. I will work with various organizations, dedicated to protecting and healing our environment within Hawaii, throughout the Pacific and in the United States. I would love to host a public viewing of the documentary "Bag It", throughout the islands of Hawaii and Tahiti this summer. This documentary will be helpful in educating people about single use plastics–-how, why and when they were first created–-in order to help shed light on the harmful effects the chemicals in these plastic products have on our health and environment. After these documentary viewings, I will end the event with a musical performance and encouraging those communities to make a change and spread the message.
To mobilize my fans to join my commitment to sustainability, I will start an eco-movement in partnership with various eco-conscious organizations and fellow musicians. This eco-movement will encourage people to choose reusable shopping bags and water bottles and to recycle whenever possible. I will create a video featuring myself and other musicians making a public commitment or pledge to being sustainable, encouraging others to post videos of themselves making a similar commitment. My hope is that this eco-movement will become viral, spreading all over the world, and that people will realize that we are all connected and need to do our part in protecting and healing our planet, for the benefit of us all. I’m thinking of calling it “One Earth”.
