The Brita Products Company has joined with Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, to extend their FilterForGood campaign into schools to help educate 3rd–5th graders about the environment and encourage them to make a difference in their community’s environmental health.
Starting this month, teachers will receive "Our Water, Our Planet," a national standards-based educational program created by Scholastic and Brita designed to help educate students and their families about the simple ways they can protect natural resources and fragile ecosystems by reducing plastic bottled water waste. Through this program, students can learn about the environment and better understand how reducing, reusing and recycling can impact the environment, all while practicing reading comprehension and math skills. To support the in-school program, teachers can access the Brita education site at www.scholastic.com/brita which features a series of free lessons and turnkey printables, as well as a variety of resources and family activities including a family action plan to reduce plastic use at home.
If you’re looking for more ways to help your school go green, Brita is supporting the effort to rebuild Greensburg, Kansas, a town completely destroyed by the worst tornado in U.S. history, by creating "Brita® Filling Stations" throughout the city’s K-12 school. These stations allow students and teachers to fill their reusable bottles with filtered water, reducing bottled water waste and their carbon footprint. Your school can do this too by attaching Brita faucet mount systems to water spigots throughout the building. Brita will also be one of the sponsors of "Greensburg," airing on Discovery Communication’s new network, Planet Green. Tune in Sundays at 9:00 PM ET/PT to learn more.
Last year Brita and Nalgene partnered to create the FilterForGood campaign, which reminds people that filtered water and a reusable bottle are an ideal solution for reducing bottled water waste. Since FilterForGood was launched in August 2007, more than 93,000 people have pledged to reduce their bottled water waste, which has kept an estimated 106 million disposable water bottles from America’s landfills. Visit www.filterforgood.com to learn how you can make a difference.
