Brita® water tastes great because Brita® filtration systems reduce chlorine (taste and odor)1. Brita® filters also keep a healthy level of fluoride, a water additive that promotes strong teeth.2
Most studies show that exposure to lead-contaminated water alone is not likely to elevate blood lead levels in most adults. But officials say children are particularly susceptible because their growing bodies more readily absorb lead and that lead poisoning can cause learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and, at very high levels, seizures, coma, and even death. For this reason, pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of six should take every precaution to avoid lead exposure.
Lead can enter water after the municipality has treated the water -- as it makes its way to your tap. Lead leaches into your water when water dissolves lead from pipes or soldered joints. Water standing in pipes for long periods of time increases the possibility of leaching. Lead pipes are common in older homes. Also, some plumbing fixtures, even those marketed as “lead-free”, can also contain trace amounts of lead.
You cannot see, taste or smell lead in tap water. In fact, the only way to know for sure whether your tap water contains lead is to have it tested.
As you’ll see below, the process may sound complicated, but it’s really quite simple. All it takes to create great-tasting water are three separate filtration processes packed into every Brita® Pitcher filter.
1Substances reduced may not be in all users’ water.
2Applies to fluoridated municipal tap water.
