Brita® Faucet Filters and Pitcher Filters have been tested and verified to remove only a trace amount of fluoride over the life of a filter. (Many brands of bottled waters do not contain the level of fluoride recommended by dentists.)
In the last 20 years, tooth decay has declined dramatically. About half of all children in America now reach the age of 18 without a cavity. Much of the credit goes to fluoride. In fact, both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) agree that fluoridated water remains the most effective method of preventing tooth decay. Learn more about the ways Brita® water enhances your child’s health.
Fluoride makes tooth enamel harder and more resistant to decay. It also stops the growth of newly formed cavities.
Tap water is the most common source. Fluoride is also found in some foods (fish, tea and green leafy vegetables), toothpastes, rinses and supplements.
The quality of U.S. and Canadian tap water is generally quite good. However, some municipalities introduce chlorine as a disinfectant. Lead can leach out of household plumbing. Brita® faucet systems reduce chlorine (taste and odor) and lead1. In fact, in better restaurants, tap water is often treated before it’s used for cooking.
Treatment plants add chlorine to kill germs as water travels many miles through pipes to your tap. While the amount of chlorine added is regulated and not considered dangerous, it can impair taste and odor.
The quality of the water produced by Local Water Authorities is generally good, but problems sometimes occur between the time the water leaves the treatment plant and the time it reaches your tap. So, even if it was treated in a similar method to Brita® filtration systems, water may not arrive at your tap in the ideal state due to municipal and/or household plumbing. It is also important to realize that while the daily water usage per person is 30 to 50 gallons, only several gallons are used for drinking water or food preparation, so the cost to treat all water this way would not be economical…it is best to make this final treatment in your home at point-of-use with Brita® Pitcher or Faucet filtration systems.
Soft water can leach lead from household plumbing systems. Brita® faucet systems reduce lead1. Lead in tap water is caused primarily by corrosion of lead solder, brass faucet fixtures, and lead pipes in the household plumbing system. Regardless of whether you have hard or soft water you may want to improve the taste and generally improve the quality of your water.
Brita® water is great for most pets. Since fish can be especially sensitive to certain elements in their water, we recommend using water from a Brita® Faucet Filtration System and any neutralizer recommended by your pet store.
