Replace your Brita Elite™ Filter every 120 gallons, or about every 6 months for most households.* If you have hard water, you may need to change filters more often. When you install a new filter, use your built-in electronic filter indicator or sticker calendar indicator so you’ll know exactly when to replace it. - How do I prepare and change the filter in my Brita® pitcher or dispenser?
- Insert the Brita Elite™ Filter into the reservoir by lining up the groove in the filter with the notch in the reservoir. Press firmly for a tight seal.
- Add cold tap water. For pitchers, discard your first three containers worth of filtered water; for dispensers, discard your first dispenser of filtered water (or use it to water plants).

How the Brita Elite™ Filter Works
Brita Elite Filters use a patented pleated filter and proprietary active filtering agents in a housing made without BPA to reduce contaminants that may be found in tap water, while preserving certain minerals and electrolytes§. Contaminants reduced include 99% of lead, chlorine (taste and odor), cadmium, mercury, class I particulates, asbestos, and benzene‡.
