• How do I prepare and change the filter refill in my Brita® pitcher?
  1. With clean hands, rinse filter refill with cold water for 30 seconds.
  2. Insert refill into shell and secure lid.
  3. Insert filter shell below the line to seal. Press firmly to ensure the filter is secure.
  4. Fill the reservoir with cold tap water to max fill line.
  5. Pour out first 3 pitchers of filtered water or use it to water plants.

  How often should I change my filter refill? Your Brita® Water Pitcher has a built-in SmartLight filter indicator, so you'll know exactly when to replace your filter refill—every 40 gallons, or about every 2 months for most households*.   How do I clean my Brita® pitcher? Remove the filter and hand-wash the rest of the pitcher components with mild soap, then rinse well. (Never use abrasive detergents or a dishwasher).
